It has a number of functions under the Soil and Land Conservation Act 1945, including ‘preventing, remedying or mitigating land degradation and for promoting soil conservation and reclamation'. LANDCARE SUPPORT The Toodyay LCDC has secured funding for a landcare officer (who has been providing advice to the ratepayers in Toodyay) since 1998. Funding was provided by the Australian and West Australian Governments, the Shire of Toodyay, and most recently by the ratepayers, through a landcare service charge. The most recent position was employed from 2002 to 2008; a Business Plan was developed to support the position. The Toodyay LCDC provided administrative support for the CLSO through this period. TOODYAY LANDCARE - A STRATEGY FOR THE FUTURE During 2008, the Toodyay LCDC assessed the work that had been undertaken by the CLSO. It considered that it had accomplished the goals set out in the Business Plan, and found the implementation of a further service charge was unnecessary. However, the LCDC felt there was a continuing need to provide landcare advice to new residents of the Shire. To achieve this, the LCDC developed a 'Strategy for the Future' [2.24MB] as an option to continue to provide landcare advice to the community. An additional tool will be through this website as it develops. The Strategy was publicly launched in Toodyay on the 13th October 2009 by the LCDC Chair, former Shire Councillor Frank Panizza. Copies of the Strategy are available free to ratepayers of the Shire of Toodyay. For copies, any other enquiries relating to the Strategy, or for other LCDC matters, please contact the Secretary. All administrative matters should be directed to LCDC Administration. Membership of the LCDC is through appointment by the Commissioner for Soil Conservation.
